Simple Present
 

Most English verbs have two simple present forms. The main form...

  I / you /we / they walk.
 

and the third person singular form which is the main form with an s sound added to the end.

  He / she / it walks.
 

When a verb ends in a y,the y becomes i and and an es is added.

  She cries.
 
  It flies.
 

The simple present tense is used to describe habitual actions or characteristics.


  Susan always smiles.
 
  George seldom laughs.
 
  We rarely frown.
 
  He is handsome.
 
  She is beautiful.
 

Commands / Orders
 

When the subject of a sentence is leftout, the present simple becomes a command.

 

Smile!

 
  Walk.
 
  Run!
 

The main form of the 'to be' verb is be.

 

Be kind!

 
  Be strong!
 
  Be brave.
