Volunteering
Volunteers from a wide variety of cultures and languages have constructed LanguageGuide.org. You can return the favor by sharing your own language and culture. By volunteering for a web-based project like Languageguide.org, your work has the potential to touch hundreds of millions of people Whatever your native language is: Urdu, Spanish, English, Mandarin or even Klingon, we could use your help.
Native Speakers of Languages other than English
You could help by translating word lists and documents into your native language. Some of the needed translations will help others learn your language, while other translations will help speakers of your language learn other languages. Besides helping with translations, you could write dialogs or stories for beginning students of your language. They will be used to create interactive readings, a resource that develops audio comprehension and reading skills, as well as helps users build vocabulary. We hope to create advanced readings out of radio broadcasts and would appreciate recommendations of particular radio programs. We will also need people to record these broadcasts and send them to us through the Internet.English Speakers
In addition to what is currently on the site, we plan on developing interactive readings for people learning English and for people learning other languages. The interactive readings help develop audio comprehension and reading skills, as well as helps users build vocabulary. You could help by writing dialogs or stories for beginning ESL students. If you speak a foreign language fluently, you could also help prepare foreign language readings for English speakers. This mostly entails writing definitions for the most challenging words and for beginning readings, translating the reading. If you are interested in helping, write to us at helping@languageguide.org.
