The words featured in this guide are specific to Spain. While the vast majority of words are the same everywhere, there is a good deal of regional variety. For example a drinking straw, normally called 'una caña', is 'un sorvete' in Puerto Rico, 'un pitillo' in Columbia, and 'un popote' in Mexico. Almost every word featured in this vocabulary guide would be recognized anywhere in the Spanish speaking world however it is important to point out some of the words that are specific to Spain. In Spain a shrimp is 'una gamba'. Everywhere else it is 'un camarón'. In Spain, school teachers on all levels are known as 'profesores'. In most other places they are known as 'maestros'.
