The words featured in this guide are specific to Mexico. While the vast majority of words are the same everywhere, there is a good deal of regional variety. For example a drinking straw, normally called 'una caña', is 'un sorvete' in Puerto Rico, 'un pitillo' in Columbia, and 'un popote' in Mexico. Almost every word featured in this vocabulary guide would be recognized anywhere in the Spanish speaking world however it is important to point out some of the words that are specific to Mexico. In Spain a tomato is 'un jitomate'. Everywhere else it is 'un tomate'. In Mexico, a turkey is 'el guajolote' but everywhere else it is "el pavo"
