About the Subjunctive
The Spanish subjunctive mood is used to express:
- Doubt or uncertainty: "Dudo que venga" (I doubt that he's coming)
- Emotions and feelings: "Me alegra que estés aquí" (I'm happy that you're here)
- Wishes and desires: "Espero que tengas suerte" (I hope you have luck)
- Commands and requests: "Te pido que me ayudes" (I ask you to help me)
- Hypothetical situations: "Si fuera rico, viajaría" (If I were rich, I would travel)
The subjunctive is formed by taking the first person present conjugation, dropping the o and adding -e, -es, -e, -emos, -éis, -en for -ar ending verbs and -a, -as, -a, -amos, -áis, -an for -er and -ir ending verbs.
