Odd Plurals

Some adjectives have irregular masculine plurals.

For -x and -s ending adjectives, the masculine singular and plural forms are identical.

un moine heureux
a happy monk

des moines heureux
happy monks

un costume gris
grey suit

des costumes gris
grey suits

The feminine plural still adds an s.

une femme courageuse
a courageous woman

des femmes courageuses
courageous women

une journée grise
a grey day

des journées grises
grey days

A few adjectives add -x to form plurals.

Most adjectives that end in -al replace the -al with -aux to form the masculine plural.
